Problem: A customer needed to increase operating efficiencies of a -45°F two stage refrigeration system with rotary vane booster compressors and reciprocating high stage compressors. In the last several years some screw compressors had been added to the system.
Solution: Gartner Refrigeration, working along with the power utility company, found a way to substantially lower the energy consumption of the plant by replacing the rotary vane compressors with screw compressors. An undersized intercooler was replaced during this project as well.
As a result five high stage reciprocating compressors that were no longer needed could be turned off. The savings were so great that the utility company financed virtually all of it.
