LED technology saves energy by using significantly less wattage to generate the same light output, and conserves energy by using advanced sensing technology to minimize the number of run hours. LED’s do not add heat to refrigerated spaces; therefore, the refrigeration load is reduced.

The implementation is simple, a variety of models are available and most require little modification to existing lighting ballasts and wiring. The high quality fixtures have been field proven to double the lighting power on the floor of a cold storage warehouse, and can communicate wirelessly and have much longer life span than traditional lighting.

Finally, almost all local utilities have rebate programs for this type of lighting upgrade. Xcel Energy currently offers up to $400 per KW saved, of course this is contingent on a few other requirements, such as payback period.
