With 12 technicians, Gartner Refrigeration has the largest ammonia refrigeration service department in the upper Midwest. Every Gartner Refrigeration mechanical technician is a highly trained specialist, with the knowledge and experience it takes to do the job right, the first time.
Here is what it takes to become a Gartner Refrigeration technician:
- Two years in technical school. Subjects studied include refrigeration training, heating, ventilation, electronics, and electrical controls.
- Five years of night school. Once they're on the job, Gartner Refrigeration technicians continue going to their refrigeration training four hours per night, two nights per week, nine months per year, for five years! They get additional refrigeration training, high pressure ammonia refrigeration and steam piping training. Plus, additional refrigeration training on hot water recirculation, blueprint reading, and electronics.
- Seminars at Gartner Refrigeration. These refrigeration seminars are run by factory contracting engineers to update our people on new refrigeration equipment and changes that affect our daily operations.
- Two to four outside schools per year. Each year we pay to send our technicians to manufacturers' factories for hands-on, on-the-spot refrigeration training.
- Bi-Weekly Meetings. On their own time, all our refrigeration engineering technicians meet for breakfast. In this informal setting, they share refrigeration system information that will minimize service time on the job.
